I'd rather if my body didn't have to be
the next stray home for the next stray bullet
but I live in a war zone
called the american city
where the liars and the thieves
and the cops rule it
I walk out my front door
take my life in my hands
you gotta live it to believe
you better believe that I’m mad
I just want a little peace
without running away
from these city streets
it's not a lot to ask
when everything but progress moves so fast

I'm angry, I'm mad, I'm hurt and I’m sad
and I don't know what to do
I'm angry, I’m mad. I'm hurt and I’m sad
and I’m so terrified of you

it's a matter of jobs, it's a matter of pride gotta give em something to work for
keep their dreams alive
it's a matter of education
it's a matter of sacrifice
for a little peace of mind
in the world's people lives
